When the temperature is lower than 15℃, it becomes hard, brittle, and easy to crush; Soft, sticky, and plastic at 36℃; When the temperature reaches 60~70℃, it melts into viscous fluid, and beeswax is separated. Most of the effective substances in propolis can be extracted by mixing petroleum ether with ethanol, but the process is complicated and only suitable for large-scale production due to process limitations. The polarity of acetone is close to that of ethanol, but the extract can not be directly made into tincture as ethanol extraction, and the extract is used in medicine, food, cosmetics, and so on.

Technological process:

(1) Raw materials are pre-selected and classified to remove impurities.

(2) Put the pre-selected raw materials into a refrigerator and freeze them at -18℃ for 48h.

(3) The frozen raw materials are quickly put into a crusher for crushing. Because of its physical properties, propolis is semi-plastic at room temperature, and it is difficult to break, but it is easy to break at a temperature below -5℃.

(4) The crushed raw materials immediately enter the vibrating screen (14 mesh), and the particles larger than 14 mesh return to the refrigerator.

(5) Put the crushed and screened raw materials into an impregnation kettle, and the impregnation kettle is preferably a reaction kettle equipped with a reflux condenser. Adding 90% ethanol [propolis (weight): ethanol (volume = 1: 4)], soaking at room temperature, and constantly stirring. After 6 hours, stop stirring, let stand for 2 hours, release the supernatant, add 90% ethanol, repeat the above process for 3 times, and combine the solutions. The temperature should be kept at about 25℃ in the impregnation process. If the temperature is too high, a large amount of beeswax will be dissolved, which will make filtration difficult. When the temperature is too low, the solubility decreases, which leads to prolonged time and increased solvent consumption.

(6) The impregnated solution enters a cooling reaction kettle, circulating cooling is introduced into the jacketed reaction kettle, mechanical stirring is carried out, and the temperature is reduced to below 5 DEG C.

(7) The cooled solution enters the plate-and-frame filter through the pump for filtration while it is cold. The temperature of the solution should be kept below 5℃ so that the beeswax dissolved in the ethanol solution can be separated out and filtered out with the filter residue.

(8) The filtrate enters a decompression evaporator and is heated by a water bath. At this stage, the temperature should be kept below 50℃, which can reduce the evaporation of volatile oil and the denaturation of effective components by heat.

(9) The evaporated ethanol vapor is recovered by the condenser and injected into the solvent storage tank for recycling.

(10) After the evaporated propolis is molded by injection molding, it becomes a (pure propolis) commodity.
